Help #FillThePodium

I’m Ry Shissler, the Executive Director of They Cycle. The goal of our #FillThePodium program is to reduce barriers to participation in cycling events for gender diverse people.

Part of this is advocacy — we work with event organizers to create more inclusive and accepting spaces. However, even if we’re 100% successful in our advocacy, significant barriers remain.

Getting from “I want to try bike racing” to enjoying a day cycling through the forest with hundreds of other people takes a lot of resources. Some of the biggest barriers we aim to help overcome are:

• Decent equipment

  • From good tires to comfortable clothing

• Transportation

  • Events are often far from where people live

• Knowledge building

  • Organizing inclusive events to share experiences and skills
